On Thursday, Nigerians mourned the tragic death of a 32-year-old female bank worker, Amarachi Ugochukwu, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, who took her own life by consuming an insecticide.
The incident occurred on Monday within the bank’s premises, where Ugochukwu, around 1 pm, entered the restroom and ingested the insecticide unbeknownst to her colleagues. Concern arose when her phone kept ringing on her table, and she was nowhere to be found.
A police source confirmed that Ugochukwu was later discovered lifeless in the toilet, alongside the bottle of insecticide and her suicide note. In the note, she attributed her decision to the harsh economic conditions, expressing frustration with her life’s challenges.
Ugochukwu apologized to her parents and family members in the suicide note, concluding with a plea for mercy from the Lord.
The bank manager reported the incident to the police, explaining that Ugochukwu had locked herself in the toilet to carry out the act and was found dead after the door was forced open.
