Naomi Campbell, the original supermodel, concluded an eventful period at London Fashion Week, marking its 40th anniversary. The front rows were brimming with celebrities seeking the latest trends to grace the red carpet. London native Campbell took to the runway at Burberry’s closing show, held in Victoria Park, Tower Hamlets, on Monday.
Designer Daniel Lee’s collection for Burberry showcased a shift towards outdoor attire, suited for the rainy capital, in front of a star-studded audience including actor Barry Keoghan, Vogue editor Dame Anna Wintour, and actress Joanna Lumley. Lumley, renowned for her portrayal of fashion director Patsy Stone in the BBC sitcom “Absolutely Fabulous,” had earlier strutted down the runway for the Completedworks presentation on Friday.
The park also saw British models Cara Delevingne, Elizabeth Jagger, and Georgia May Jagger, along with Iris Law and Lila Moss. London-based footballers Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Son Heung-min, and Ben Chilwell set aside their rivalries for the evening.
Faux fur coats were prominent, with Burberry’s signature beige, black, and red check reimagined into an autumnal color palette. Earlier on Monday, London and Shanghai-based Canadian-Chinese designer Susan Fang unveiled her collaboration with underwear brand Victoria’s Secret, featuring a Valentine’s Day theme inspired by sea creatures.
Sunday’s shows continued the romantic theme, with Richard Quinn presenting a floral-themed collection. Quinn, a favorite of the royals, established his eponymous label in 2017 after honing his skills at Christian Dior and Savile Row. JW Anderson’s show had a more casual vibe, contrasting with its star-studded front row. Rosamund Pike was among the attendees ahead of the evening’s film awards.
Known for his luxury must-haves, JW Anderson showcased oversized knits and playful silhouettes, paired with knit bags and comfortable boots. Stylist Law Roach, renowned for dressing Hollywood star Zendaya, was seen at Saturday’s Roksanda display at Tate Britain, where the layering trend continued with a deep plum suit.
Masha Popova’s Friday collection drew inspiration from MTV’s It girl era, appealing to early 30-somethings with a nostalgia for the 90s and 00s, exemplified by Ukrainian-born London-based designer Masha Popova.
