Mind your Mind (Mental health)
The term mental health is usually believed to mean having a mental illness like Schizophrenia bipolar mood disorder, personality disorders, or rather people think of a wild person chained to a bed who have  lost their mind. It goes beyond a mental illness. In short It encompasses even much more. It is to do with the mind. The wellbeing of the mind. It is all about being mentally sound. One may not be born with a physical illness but still end up on a sick bed due to infection from food, water or their surroundings. This also applies to mental health. You can be born mentally sound but be mentally unsound because of stress. Stress in this case can result from financial difficulties, the need for a child after years of marriage, the pressure to get married after a certain period of age, a breakup from a relationship and many others. What ever gets you to worry intensely for a prolonged period can cause a shift in one’s mental state if not properly handled.
There are three areas that make a man. The Body, soul and spirit. A lot is said about taking care of the body and remaining physically healthy. Nutritionist will say do a constant check-up with your doctor. Eat your five a day, drink 8 glasses of water a day, do a regular exercise.
Also, in the spiritual line of things people have tied  their spiritual needs to different Gods. A lot of people dedicate their time to the reading of the Bible, Quran and even fasting and all sort. All of this takes care of the spirit of man. The one area that is been ignored is the soul. Which is also the sit of the mind. Very little is said about maintaining a healthy Soul (Mind). The one thing people are ignorant about is, that  a sick mind will eventually result to a sick body. Even if it was healthy.  Also a sick spirit can eventually result to loss of faith.
The mind is powerful. My favourite book says ‘’ Guard your heart with all diligence for out of it comes the issues of life. For as the heart is either pure or corrupt, so is the whole course of man’s life’’
The mind Is where thinking takes place. A healthy mind will be peaceful and will think a positive thought hence the popular saying  “Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
Ever noticed people who snap for no good reason, it all started in their mind. No behaviour or human action happens suddenly it must have been groomed in the mind before the physical manifestation.
Just the same way your body depends on food and water to stay alive your mind also feeds.  It is constantly eating from you. The feeding is either conscious or subconscious.
There are different doors through which it receives its food. through the eyes, nose, ears, skin through touch. You eventually will say what you constantly think about. You will in a short time want what you see. This is the secret advertisers use to capture their buyers. Ever wondered the correlation between a naked lady and a car.
The mind is powerful. The great ones amongst us are the ones who have understood this and have made a conscious effort to control what they see, perceive, touch and hear.
Your mind will reproduce whatever you feed it whether consciously or unconsciously. The mind will be healthy if fed with  healthy things.
The Same way diseases make the body sick so also external factors can make the body sick.
Challenges in live if not properly handled can cause a shift in a person’s mental wellbeing. Also, an elongated problem can result to over thinking and chronic stress. When this happens, the mind if not directed to something positive will dwell on that challenge. This might result to overthinking. After a period of time this will start showing up physically symptoms such as shown below.
On a scale of one to ten, a person who is born mentally sound is on a scale of 1 and a person with a mental illness could be on the very end of the scale which is ten. There is a huge possibility that one who is 1 on the scale at birth can get to 6 or 7 at a later stage of their life if they don’t have the knowledge of how to deal with lives’ challenges.
Ever wondered why people lose their mind. Ever asked yourself why some people are touchy and easily irritated when they are under pressure.
The human mind is powerful. It is where thinking takes place. It is the centre of thought both good and bad. A healthy mind is not only a happy life but also a successful one. The mind is like a rubber band. It stretches. When challenges come to us. Slight problem stretches a little smaller compared to huge ones. The huge ones tend to stretch and stretch. A person may lose their threshold if they don’t know how to go about their challenges. In those case this rubber snaps after a prolonged period of intense stretch. This is when you say people who have lost their mind. Mr John who did not talk to himself in public suddenly speaks to himself and cannot make good sense in his conversation. This could be 8 on our scale. Mr John went through 2 3 4 5 6 7 before he got to 8. At 4 5 6 7 he was touchy, anxious, showing the below common symptoms.
Some symptoms of mental stress
Depression
Anxiety and agitation.
Moodiness, irritability, or anger.
Feeling overwhelmed.
Loneliness
Other mental or emotional health problems
Some people may or may not show all the above symptoms.
The most important thing to note during a period of challenge is the fact that it will not last forever. It is a phase. Worrying and stressing may result to the above listed physical behaviour. You might loose good relationship when this happens. Nobody is happy staying around a person who is constantly unhappy or easily irritated as listed. Life happens. It happens to the rich and the poor. Our attitude towards this challenge is what determines our mental wellbeing. Always remember life happens FOR you not AGAINST you.
