The seven prominent oil marketers in Nigeria have officially enrolled with the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to facilitate the lifting and distribution of refined petroleum products manufactured by the $20 billion plant.
Representatives from the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria confirmed on Sunday that, following their registration, they are poised to initiate the distribution of fuel produced by the facility once the commercial terms are finalized.
Simultaneously, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria disclosed their plans to meet with the management of the Dangote refinery this week to negotiate the terms of product loading.
In a similar vein, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria declared that PETROAN has been actively in discussions with the management of the multi-billion dollar refinery for the supply of products from the facility. As IPMAN and PETROAN engage with the refinery, major marketers affiliated with MOMAN have already completed their registration with the plant and are ready to commence product purchases.
The seven major marketers comprise 11 Plc, Conoil Plc, Ardova Plc, MRS Oil Nigeria Plc, OVH Energy Marketing Limited, Total Nigeria Plc, and NNPC Retail.
On Friday, the Dangote Petroleum Refinery announced the initiation of the production of Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) and JetA1 (aviation fuel). Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his support, encouragement, and insightful advice in realizing the project. Dangote also thanked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, and the Nigerian people for their support and belief in this historic project.
“We have commenced the production of diesel and aviation fuel, and the products will be in the market within this month once we receive regulatory approvals. This is a significant day for Nigeria. We are thrilled to have reached this important milestone. It is a game-changer for our country, and I am very satisfied with the realization of this project,” stated Dangote.
Situated in Lagos, the refinery has already received six million barrels of crude oil at its two Single Point Moorings (SPMs) located 25km from the shore. The first crude delivery occurred on December 12, 2023, and the 6th cargo was delivered on January 8, 2024.
The refinery boasts the capacity to load 2,900 trucks a day at its truck-loading gantries, and the products adhere to Euro V specifications, as per the company’s statement.
“The refinery design complies with the World Bank, US EPA, European emission norms, and Department of Petroleum Resources emission/effluent norms, employing state-of-the-art technology,” the company highlighted.
