Nigeria’s Quest for Brit Awards Continues: Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema Miss Out Again
Nigeria’s hopes were once again dashed at the prestigious Brit Awards held at London’s 02 Arena on Saturday night. Despite the anticipation surrounding the nominations of Burna Boy, Asake, and Rema, none of them managed to secure an award at this year’s ceremony.
In the highly contested Best International Act of the Year category, Burna Boy and Asake faced tough competition but ultimately lost to American sensation SZA. Similarly, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ missed out on the Best International Song of the Year award, which was claimed by Miley Cyrus for her track ‘Flowers.’
However, the disappointment didn’t overshadow Rema’s talent, as he concluded the ceremony with a mesmerizing performance of his hit song, ‘Calm Down.’ Remarkably, he became only the second African artist to grace the BRITs stage, following in the footsteps of Burna Boy, who performed at the event in 2019.
On the other hand, Raye emerged as the night’s biggest winner, setting a new record for the most wins in a single year in BRITs history. With an impressive tally of six awards, including Best New Artist, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best R&B Act, and Songwriter of the Year, Raye solidified her status as a rising star in the music industry.
