A group, South-West Movement for Osinbajo (SOWEMOVE), has urged the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to step down his ambition to vie for the presidential seat in 2023 and instead back Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for the highly coveted position.
National Co-ordinator of SOWEMOVE, Abioye Akerele, while presenting the group’s position to the Director of Operations of The Progressive Project (TPP), Alhaji Aliyu Usman Aliyu, in Abuja, warned that the Presidency might elude the South-West geo-political zone in 2023 if Osinbajo is not considered to occupy the exalted seat.
IN another development, former Minister of Works and the National Chairman, South-West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) 2023, Senator Dayo Adeyeye, said the group had started aggressive mobilisation of voters across Ekiti State to save the APC from imminent defeat in the 2022 governorship election
Adeyeye, who described SWAGA as the only saving grace for the party, spoke in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend while addressing APC members at the conclusion of the mobilisation efforts of the group across the 16 local councils of the state.
He expressed regret that the APC in Ekiti had lost popularity despite being the ruling party owing to alleged politics of hatred and alienation being played by those loyal to the governor.
MEANWHILE, a development expert passionate about progressive innovation and ethical governance in Africa, Princess Olatorera Oniru, has urged Nigerian youths to brace for the odds and make themselves available for leadership as the country prepares for another election cycle in 2023.
Oniru, who made this known in a statement, yesterday, to announce her bid for the House of Representatives seat, said: “The future of over 200 million great Nigerians depends on a better Nigeria achievable through the democratic installation of capable, ethical, determined and experienced leaders.
“The year 2023 brings about a new wave of elections in Nigeria of which the highest potential citizens must be ready to win the battle, take over the baton and lead painstakingly.”
“As Nigeria gears up to decide on electing the best citizens capable of leading uncorrupted, the race is on for new local, state and national leaders for Greater Nigeria.
“In a country with zero per cent senators under the age of 41 and a maximum of seven per cent women representation in the National Assembly since independence, Oniru’s campaign team is hard at work to make sure we win this for greater Nigeria, epitomable leadership, increased women representation, courageous young leaders in government and a progressive economy with increased standards of living,” the statement stated.
