There is tight security at the Federal High Court, Abuja, as the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, appears to face his trial today.
Newslodge recalls that there was a similar security deployment at the courthouse on October 21 when the secessionist was brought to court to continue his trial.
The measure for heavy security personnel in and around the courthouse on Wednesday was to prevent security breaches during the hearing.
The entrances leading to the court premises were blocked by combined armed officers from the agents of the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, Civil Defense and Security and the Nigerian Police.
Vehicles were not allowed into court.
However, court personnel and journalists, whose names are listed for coverage, are allowed access to the building at the time of filing this report.
Although five media companies would have access to the courtroom from the list presented to DSS agents, several media professionals will be asked to remain in the media center in the basement of the court.
