How to get your dream job in 2022 and how Getjobs Nigeria Initiative can help job seekers achieve the dream

The vision of Getjobs is to help and teach others how to get jobs and secure them. We also develop the entrepreneurial skills of the average applicant so they can be able to stand on their own and possibly get others employed. In summary we are out to reduce the high rate of unemployment amongst fresh graduates with no experience as well as experienced professionals who don’t have access to insightful information that could get them jobs in a highly competitive space as we have it in Nigeria. As at today, ‘getjobs’ has documented over 400 job successes via our platform posts and referrals. If you look at dependants of these success stories of say 3 dependants per person, that translates to 1200 lives touched. That’s the joy for me. This is self actualization for me.

I founded getjobs in 2017 based on my own personal experience. At a time during my career, I observed that many lacked useful, meaningful and requisite information that potential employers are looking for in applicants. Getjobs Nigeria is fully registered under Corporate Affairs Commission

I observed job seekers hardly impress them even if they are sometimes qualified academically.  Another thing lacking were job referrals to individuals with special skills. My background as a chartered mechanical engineer with about 20 years’ experience that spreads across the oil and gas as well FMCG industry provided me the needed leverage in doing this work with relative ease.

What ‘getjobs’ is doing differently is that it is a nonprofit platform where opportunities are shared without taking advantage of the unemployed.

‘Getjobs’ is CSR based on passion and desire by a group of established professionals who want to support the unemployed to secure their dream jobs. We have commenced partnering with professional bodies to train individuals and groups on the art of ‘CV’ writing, interview tips, and skills acquisition.

In a society where we have a high number of people with questionable character and fraudsters, we stand out as being transparent. We are currently about 20,000 on our telegram messenger platform and no applicant has been charged a single kobo or any form of gratification for job placement.

A lot factors contribute to the high rate of unemployment from my view and are as follows; Poor quality of education. Every year, half baked graduates are released into the labor market with many ending up not getting employed. Lack of skills is another factor as graduates don’t think it’s essential to empower themselves to further enhance their chances of getting a job. The ones who eventually acquire the skills eventually stand a higher chance of getting employed. Others are corruption, high and rapid population growth. In Nigeria, tribalism and nepotism is a major factor, as people are now being employed based on where they come from and not what value they bring into an organization? On the long run, more qualified people are not employed.

What can be done to reduce unemployment by Government are as follows; reformation of our educational system. Secondly is to focus on agriculture and the government has to do everything possible to attract private investors.

There is need for improvement in energy supply and transport system which will cut the high cost of production. So, there will be no need to cut jobs.

Getjobs is currently facilitating a Career Fair in conjunction with Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch to hold on the 15th of January 2022 at The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ikeja Branch Office located at Plot 32 Oba Ogunji Road, Besides Forte Oil Filling Station, via Pen Cinema, Ogba Rd, Agege. The event seeks to bring applicants and potential employers, in objective terms tell us about the program and what you hope to achieve.

At ‘Getjobs’ 2022 fair which is coming on 15th of January, we have networking opportunities with prospective employers, live sessions on writing CV’s, preparing for interviews, industry exposures, job opportunities and on-site interviews.

We will be having great speakers, Managing Directors of companies, HR’s and Industry Experts who will be taking all the necessary the various sessions towards not just having jobs but also sustaining jobs. I have gotten some assurances from some organizations they will be giving on the spot jobs to talents that suite their needs.

It’s a laudable plan to become an entrepreneur also. Getjobs is not only for those who want to be employed but also for those who plan to start up a business. It is not everyone who finished school that must be engaged in a white collar job. The essence of the fair will also cover skills needed to sustain and make prospective entrepreneurs succeed.

We have a ‘CV’ bank collated from applicants on our platform and those ‘CVs’ will be screened at the completion of the fair and shared with various organizations. Talents identified during the fair will also be engaged by top organizations. We are already in touch with about 13 top organizations in this respect to identify top talents and engage them.

‘Getjobs’ has already linked up about 400 people to various jobs with documented success stories. You can get more of this on our website – www.getjobs.com.ng
