Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Wizkid is set to headline the opening night of the 2026 Detty December Fest in Lagos, giving fans another major music event to look forward to this December.
The Grammy-winning singer, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, will perform at the festival’s grand opening concert on Friday, December 18, 2026. The festival will run for 13 days, from December 18 to December 30, bringing together music, culture, food, fashion and entertainment.
Wizkid to Open the Festival
Organizers announced Wizkid as the first major headliner for this year’s festival. His performance will officially kick off the 2026 edition of Detty December Fest in Lagos.
The opening concert is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the Detty December Village in Lagos.
Wizkid’s appearance is expected to attract fans from across Nigeria as well as visitors travelling to Lagos for the city’s famous December entertainment season.
Detty December Fest Expands in 2026
This year’s festival is set to be bigger, with organisers planning two performance stages, including a platform designed to showcase emerging artists.
The festival will combine live music with other aspects of Nigerian entertainment and culture, making it one of the events expected to contribute to Lagos’ busy festive-season calendar.
The previous edition attracted more than 40,000 festivalgoers, according to Turntable Charts, highlighting the growing popularity of the event.
Why Wizkid’s Performance Matters
Wizkid remains one of Nigeria’s most internationally recognised Afrobeats artists, and his inclusion gives the festival a major star attraction from the start.
His headline performance is also expected to add to the excitement surrounding Lagos’ annual Detty December season, when Nigerians at home and in the diaspora return to the city for concerts, parties and other entertainment events.
With December still several months away, anticipation for the festival is already beginning to build.
Fans Look Forward to December
Although Wizkid is currently the headline act announced for the opening night, fans will be watching closely for additional performers as the festival organisers reveal more details about the 2026 programme.
For now, one thing is certain: Wizkid is bringing his star power to Lagos on December 18 for the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026.
The announcement adds another major date to the Nigerian music calendar and sets the stage for what could be one of Lagos’ biggest entertainment seasons of the year.
